Just off the main Kalpetta highway, a splash of bright colours, aptly named ‘Rainbow Holiday Home’ is set between lush Wayanad greenery. Run by Livingstone and Omana, the homestay is flanked by their coffee plantations of 5 acres. With the town in comfortable proximity to many surrounding areas, Rainbow Holiday Home is good for those who want to make their stay action packed.
Colour themed rooms (green, white, rose & red) over-look a large ‘sapota’ tree in the front of the house. A TV is placed in the outer gallery and a large chic covered opening gives a spacious feel to the room. A reading table is also present. The one room to look out for, soon, is the wooden cottage on the 2nd floor with the best vantage point for a great view of the Nilgiris. Jack-fruit and other trees make for additional charm in the garden. A fish pond sits right in the central area below the steps leading up to the first floor.
Livingstone and Omana live just beside the house, giving a good blend of privacy and hospitality.
Pets are not allowed as the couple have their own dogs.
Activities:
There are plenty of viewing sights which one may like to visit when in Wayanad. Kalpetta being sufficiently central, the below places can be arranged to be seen on prior notice.
- The famous Edakkal Caves are a short drive away and a must if you are visiting this region.
- The Muthanga wildlife Sanctuary catches the interest of many wildlife enthusiasts.
- Meenmutty or the Soochipara falls are great for a family picnic and one can ask for special packed lunch.
- Head out to the Banasura Sagar Dam for some speed boating.
- The Kuruva Island on the Kabini River is yet another exquisite destination for nature lovers.
- The Pookote Lake is also a short drive away and the kids are bound to enjoy some boating here.
Close to the house, one can indulge in the below activities:
- Take a long walk in the plantations and learn about coffee growing from Livingstone.
- Treks and overnight camping can be arranged especially for the Rainbow Holiday Home at the Chembra peak.
- Omana can whip up authentic Kerala cuisine for those who would like to get a taste.
